Issues on Classroom Management
Hi everyone :

Classroom management could possibly be the most difficult aspect of teaching. Indeed, as far as I have observed, many teachers are really experiencing problems in this area.

Although there is a plenty of published books related to classroom management - these contain tips and strategies for teachers to be effective in this area; yet, I am quite aware that these books that teaches have been studying/reading about were written by non-Filipino authors. I believe that teachers (I'm referring to the Filipino ones) should consider the cultural set up here in the Philippines for the implementation of classroom management strategies. While it is true that those books read/studied by teachers during their undergraduate years could somehow be applied to our cultural setting here in our country, it is still imperative on the part of the Filipino teachers to be "producers" of knowledge - not just "consumers".

If you have any concerns, suggestions, tips related to classroom management which you would like to share about, please do make some posts so other members of our forum site could have an open discussion regarding this. You are also encouraged to share your experience on matters regarding this issue.

A teacher is like a candle---it consumes itself in giving light to the ways of others. Cool arch7227 Cool

I totally agree with you. Classroom management could make or break the learning process. No matter how good the material is or how prepared the teacher is if the teacher fails n the classroom management aspect then it's a disaster.

When it comes to classroom management books, I make sure I have with me my human growth and development notes while reading and I visualize it in Philippine setting just to have the feel of how it would be like. If I think it is not applicable, I do not push it just for the sake of using that strategy.

There are only few materials I guess written by Filipino educators but I hope this is not an excuse why we can not have good and decent teachers.

When ever my colleagues ask me about how to do well in class I only give them 3 things... 1. prepare a good lesson 3. prepare yourself/be ready for anything and 3. visualize the execution of your lesson (what if students find it difficult or boring?)

I'm also agree with you Admin. I think this is one of the biggest problem of the education here in the Philippines. I hope the this will be solved by our next president.
