i make my students involve and participate to avoid chit chatting in the class. sometimes there are advance students who are bored or they are not interested or they do not feel they belong to the class that is why they make their own scene.

Yah, I agree with your idea to actively involve the students in the class.

I have learned a very good practice also, and in fact, I have applied this in my class. Indeed, it is effective.

Here it goes.

During the "first days" of school, give orientation to the students about a certain procedure. The students are allowed to talk during discussions provided that what they are doing have meet these 3 criteria below.

(1) Related to the lesson - Any student can do a chat with his classmates provided that it is something related to the lesson.
(2) It should be discreet - Once they do talk about something related to the lesson, they have to do it without disturbing their classmates and their teacher.
(3) It should be brief - They have to do it briefly. For an instance that they talk for about 5 minutes, they will be missing many concepts already discussed by the teacher.

Any student caught is asked to enumerate the criteria for them to instill into their minds.

This is a good place to share our opinions on how we deal on a talkative student. For me, I would not mention the name, though I would say that if you have any problems regarding with my lesson just say it you are free. I don't want to discriminate my student.
